I don't think I've ever been quite so entertained for just a dollar. In a second-hand bookstore this evening, I found a copy of Rovering to Success by Lord Baden-Powell of boy scouting fame. It's a little guidebook instructing young men on how to become moral, upstanding citizens.
From it, I have learned that if I want to be a model of manliness, I should drink and gamble in moderation, not worry too much if I succumb to self-abuse, be loyal to the King and the Empire, avoid atheists and communists, and take up a wholesome hobby like boxing or big game hunting. Right, I'll get on that. |
