Wild-eyed medievalists
I'd tell you what I was up to yesterday, but [info]larkvi's version is funnier.

The backdrop for our sword-banging was the Great Hall of Hart House, with a fire burning in the fireplace behind us. It should make for an awesome video.

Wow. How insulting to SCA. Sometimes it seems as though Aemma members are trained in SCA-hate alongside their swordwork. And really, how many have made even the slightest attempts to know anything about it? I realize that Kel and Brian are bitter, but Kel devoted, what, 20 years of his life to SCA before leaving? And he apparently remembers only the negatives.
Sure we have our share of cornflakes, but any organization this size with wide open doors will.

I'll let[info]larkvi answer for himself, but in general I'd say the ambivalent attitude towards the SCA is more a product of exposure to some actual medieval history than something AEMMA instills in people. It's not that we don't think SCAdians are cool folks, it's just that after a certain number of them tell you that the Templars discovered America, or that the women charged with witchcraft in the fifteenth century were actually part of a goddess cult, and then they refuse to believe you when you produce clearly documented evidence to the contrary, you sort of start to cringe when these people get mistaken for real historians.
